Rube Goldberg
So when two of the top ten blogs I read mention Rube Goldberg on the same day, it sparks my interest. I had always put him in the same category as Uri Geller. When he's mentioned in a Barenaked Ladies or Toad the Wet Sprocket song, you don't have to look in the liner notes to figure out what the lyric is, but you are never quite sure what the point of the reference is.
Anyway, come to find out, Rube is one of the most famous cartoonists in history, most notably for designing exceedingly complex devices that perform simple tasks in very indirect and convoluted ways. I like him.
