What did I just say?
I find myself repeating things that I really ought not have to repeat. "Do not put your bowl of oatmeal on your head. Don't put that bowl of oatmeal on your head. What did I just say?"
My daughters are demonstrating a growing penchant for passive rebellion. I think it's something I'm probably teaching them without knowing it. When my eldest is presented with a command that she does not feel inclined to obey, her immediate response is "What?" Sometimes it doesn't even come in the form of a question. Just a flat-toned "What." Sometimes she peppers it with a little detail, like "What did you say, Daddy?" Now come on. I know she heard me. I know she understood me. She just doesn't want to agree with me.
I think there's probably a lesson in there somewhere. I just don't want to hear it right now.
