Are you sure you want to go there with Peter?

I will readily admit that these thoughts are not my own. I'm waiting for authorization to give credit where it is due, but here is the text of the email that I just received:

I am just still baffled by the amount of people that point at church discipline as being wrong, and then point to Peter in the Bible. They talk about his sin...but do they ever talk about his response once confronted by the sin...
60But Peter said, "Man, I do not know what you are talking about." And immediately, while he was still speaking, the rooster crowed. 61And the Lord turned and looked at Peter. And Peter remembered the saying of the Lord, how he had said to him, "Before the rooster crows today, you will deny me three times." 62And he went out and wept bitterly.

I'm quite certain Peter did not return to the other disciples, sharing his side...or trying to rally support that his sin was not great or was not even sin...can you just hear it now? It says the Lord looked straight at him, he remembered Christ's words, and left and WEPT BITTERLY.

It annoys me that WE (and I say we, b/c I was guilty of it too at times) forgets that after Peter's sin his remorse was so evident.....and yet we use that as a defense that Church Discipline is wrong...if more of us (including myself) were to weep bitterly at our sin...we've become so callous to it, it doesn't even grieve us...
